CAMELBACK perspectives
I realized recently
that I’ve spent my life orbiting this mountain—like a tiny planet around the sun…
I commute, I commune, I escape,
in a never-ending loop.
Around. Around.

Inspired by the ancient bread-making scene painted on the wall of Ramses III's tomb–These paintings were my first paintings after a nearly 20 year hiatus.
By breaking down the elements into their most base forms: Water, Fire, Earth, Grain, Stone… The Bread Paintings are meant to evoke the feeling alchemy in creating bread, from the first seed planted in the dusty earth and billowing fields of golden wheat before harvest, each grain milled into flour and kneaded into soft pillows of yeasty dough, the hot smoke of a blazing wood oven in a dark hazy kitchen, to the toasted crusty loaves that reveal themselves from the fire.
